Abstract
With the development of civilization many persons use their voices in their vocations. It is found that such people and many who suffer from disease of the upper respiratory tract often have inflammatory disease of the tonsils.
If those who use their voices much in their occupations suffer from tonsillar disease, it may seriously affect them in their work.
Such persons, if advised to have tonsillectomy, often inquire whether or not their voices may change as a result of the operation.
Because of this, the authors have made an experimental survey to try to determine what change, if any, is likely to result from tonsillectomy, changes including range of voice, tone, and changes of resonance.
At the 32nd Academic Convention of the Korean Otolaryngological Society, we previously reported on thirteen cases of tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy in our department. We now report the results from 41 other cases.
Voice tests were done on the day preceding operation, and again two weeks following surgery, when the wounds were well healed.
The results were the-same as in the previously reported cases. If there is no injury to the; anterior and posterior faucial arches, the pharyngopalatinus, and glossopalatinus muscles, there will be no de-finite change in the voice. following tonsillectomy.
